A LABOUR party environment meeting was rudely interrupted in Shipley, after an allegedly drunk intruder attempted to force his way into the room.
Vick Jenkins, Labour Councillor for Shipley Ward, tweeted about the bizarre incident at the Shipley Baptist Church on Friday night, saying that the intruder attempted to attack a party member when restrained.
She said: "It was about 8:30pm and we heard a loud banging on the doors. A couple of members went to the door to see what was happening and there was a guy trying to push his way in.
"A member tried to talk him down but he seemed drunk and started to lash out.
"Eventually we managed to shut the door on him and call the police.
"I'm not sure why he was there in the first place, but the church is used as a food bank too, so he could have been there looking for help."
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "We received a call requesting that a male was removed from the meeting and the building.
"We then referred him to paramedics for further care."
