A DOG owner from Bradford has taken home a Best in Breed prize from the weekend’s Crufts.

Liz Holmes-Leak and her prize-winning poodle Lewis picked up the award for the class in the Utility group.

The 16-month-old miniature poodle, named after Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, was crowned in front of a packed crowd at the NEC in Birmingham and millions watching at home.

On winning Best in Breed, Mrs Holmes-Leak said: “It’s the one that everybody wants to win.

“I’ve been honoured to have judged all sizes of poodles here, but I still prefer coming as an exhibitor because you are always striving to be the best of the best.

“I won the group here in 1990 with his great-great-great grandfather, so I’ve been here a few times.

“As a show dog he’s finally starting to grow up and realise that when Mummy says ‘behave,’ we behave!

“The rest of the time he’s an absolute clown. He lives with the rest of the family and he’s thick as two short planks - but I wouldn’t have him any other way.

“It’s what makes him a good show dog, and on Sunday he was the best miniature poodle.”
