A PRIMARY school in Bradford has conquered all before them at the recent Rock Challenge, which took place at the weekend.

The team from Beckfoot Allerton Primary School won first prize in the J Rock Challenge, defeating other schools from across Yorkshire to take top spot.

The school’s original production, titled Biohazard, told the story of how an unknown virus has spread, affecting anyone in its path.

With scientists becoming desperate to find a cure for the virus, families being split up and quarantined, the performance asked if this would be the end of human civilisation, or would mankind find a way to stop the plague.

As well as taking first place, Beckfoot Allerton also won awards for choreography, performance skill, stage use, concept, drama, soundtrack, set design and function, entertainment, lighting and stage crew.

Schools performed the short dance and drama to a live audience of family, friends ad VIPs on Saturday at Production Park in Wakefield.

James Dugmore, one of the members of the Rock Challenge judging panel, said: “What a brilliant show.

“We saw some spectacular talent on stage tonight; every should, teacher and student should be extremely proud of the hard work they have put in.”

The J Rock Challenge is open to teams of pupils aged seven to 11 and has been running for 15 years.
