THE sentence of a schoolboy who carried out a series of attacks and robberies on vulnerable young people will be reviewed in the Court of Appeal.

The 16-year-old defendant, who cannot be named because of his age, received a 12 month youth rehabilitation order when he was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court last month.

His sentence was referred to the attorney general’s office for being “unduly lenient”.

The matter has now been referred to the Court of Appeal and a hearing is expected to be fixed shortly.

The youth’s spree of violence ended with a knifepoint robbery on the canal towpath at Shipley.

He pleaded guilty to robbery and having a knife after confronting his victim on the towpath in October last year.

He was also sentenced for two offences of battery, a robbery and witness intimidation.

These saw the defendant punching an 11-year-old child twice in the face in Roberts Park in August 2017.

He was one of a group of young people that assaulted a 17-year-old on Crag Road, Shipley, in December 2017.

He was also involved in robbing a 17-year-old youth with learning disabilities in a shelter in Roberts Park in April last year.
