A BRADFORD-born woman is to run the London Marathon next month for Bradford Hospitals' Charity in memory of her dad and aunt.

Jane Buckley, who works as art director for Simon & Schuster publishing house in London, is running in memory of her dad and Auntie Marlene, who she describes as “two people who made the world a better place".

Jane is so grateful for the care both her dad, who she lost to cancer 25 years ago, and her Auntie Marlene, who died of a stroke in 2017, received at Bradford Royal Infirmary that she wants to raise money for the Palliative Care Unit and the stroke ward.

“I’m running for pillows and toothpaste,” said Jane. “Palliative care is so important to so many, and the hard working carers are in desperate need of simple comforts, such as pillows and toothpaste. It’s an area that fights for funding, so over penny really does help.”

Hayley Collis, head of fundraising for Bradford Hospitals’ Charity, said: “While our hospitals provide cutting-edge treatment and first class care, it is Bradford Hospitals Charity which provide the extras which the NHS does not fund. These extras make such a huge difference to patients and their families. I can’t thank Jane enough for thinking of her home city and helping other patients in Bradford.”
