AN EVENT to celebrate the contribution women make to West Yorkshire Police was held in Bradford today.
The Women in Policing event took place at Bradford Police Museum and City Hall as part of International Women's Day. Members of the public had the chance to meet women on the frontline and behind the scenes, as well as members of the mounted police section.
Many other activities took place across the district to mark the day.
Artworks Creative Communities unveiled a fabulous portrait of Bradford women today, in the Banqueting Suite at City Hall.
The project was inspired by a 6 x 4 foot painting commissioned by the Ministry of Information in 1918. Flora Lion was a society portrait painter dispatched to Bradford to capture women working for the war effort.
Meanwhile, Bingley-based Emerald Publishing used the day to launch a new gender equality campaign.
The campaign will celebrate women in academia, while raising awareness of the lack of equality they are likely to face throughout their careers.
