SHOPPERS in Bingley are being encouraged to hand back plastic packaging at the supermarket tills, in a bid to highlight how much of what we buy is unnecessarily wrapped.
Plastic Free Bingley is joining communities across the UK as part of a nationwide Mass Unwrap.
Organised as part of the Surfers Against Sewage Plastic Free Communities campaign, it is designed to highlight the high levels of plastic packaging being used and put pressure on supermarkets to help make changes. Bingley’s event will take place on Saturday, March 9, at 1.30pm at the Co-op food store in the town’s Five Rise arcade.
The event is held over a two-hour period where shoppers can visit a Mass Unwrap volunteer after paying for their goods. Any unnecessary plastic packaging will be removed and put in a trolley for recycling or disposal.
