LIBRARIES across the district will be celebrating World Book Day with a series of events later this week.

World Book Day takes place on Thursday, March 7, to encourage children to read more and develop a love of reading.

At Bingley Library at 10am, and Burley Library at 1.45pm there will be story events for younger children with author Cathy Oakley Calvert, illustrator Margaret Swift, and Ned the sheepdog.

From 2pm at Heaton Hub Community Library there will be bunting making and storybook making, and library staff will be reading every half an hour.

Staff at Menston Library will be dressing up as characters from Room on the Broom from 3.30pm.

A 101 Dalmatians-inspired crafts session is taking place at Laisterdyke Library at 5pm for children aged up to 11.

There will be a cat bookmark making session at Wibsey Library at 3.45pm.

A special story time is taking place at Shipley Library at 2pm, and at Baildon Library at 2.30pm.

At Ilkley and Silsden libraries, World Book Day is being celebrated on Wednesday, from 10.15am at Ilkley and 1.30pm at Silsden.

Some libraries are also working with schools on World Book Day, with Dixons Music Primary heading to City Library, Thorpe Primary visiting Idle Library, Worthinghead Primary making the trip to Wyke Library, and St Francis Catholic Primary popping along to Eccleshill Library.
