The Brown Cow pub in Bingley has been given a food hygiene rating of zero in its latest inspection.

The gastropub, on Ireland Bridge in Millgate, has fallen from a previous rating of four to the lowest possible score when Bradford Council inspectors visited on January 23.

Major improvements were found to be necessary in all areas, including hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety.

The Brown Cow becomes the seventh establishment in the Bradford district to currently hold the zero rating. None of the six already on the list have yet had a new rating.

A post on the Brown Cow's Facebook page says: "You may have seen the results of our recent rating inspection.

"We would like to put minds at ease by assuring everyone that this is something we feel was an inconsistent and unfair rating.

"Therefore, we are currently in the appeals process where we have been working with the local authority to ensure we are now and have always treated our standards with the utmost importance.

"We hope to get this whole thing cleared up within the next few weeks and would like to thank you all for your continued support."
