A DOG walker has told of a horrifying attack by a man who came at him with an iron bar saying he was going to take him "to see his Jesus".

Kamal McCarter was left battered, bruised and with broken bones in Wednesday's attack in a field off Sunningdale, Allerton.

He caught his attacker coming towards him on camera after a first assault because he had his phone in his hand after taking pictures of his dog.

The man, who was wearing a 'Jesus Loves You' T-shirt with apparent blood stains on it, is thought to have just crashed a car into a van and house nearby minutes before.

Mr McCarter, 50, praised the firefighters from that incident for looking after him saying they were "unbelievable".

He said the attack was unprovoked and happened as he was walking his dog in the field. The man picked up the iron bar from the ground but Mr McCarter's dog, an American bulldog/German shepherd cross called Seth, helped drive him off.

He was left with a cut to his head, injuries to a shoulder, back and his wrists and broken fingers.

He said: "I remember getting a blow to the back of the head. I was stumbling forward and just managed to turn round to see him.

"I said to him 'What are you doing, what's going on?'

"He said 'I'm going to send you back to God. Jesus he loves me. I'm going to take you to see my Jesus'. Just mad, mad stuff.

"He just came at me and attacking me. I'm fighting him back but I couldn't use my hands any more because my wrists had gone so I'm just blocking myself so he started attacking me with a weapon.

"I didn't see what it was exactly. When he hit me the first time with it I thought I was going to drop but I knew if I dropped to the floor I'd be finished so I don't know what kept me going.

"But then the dog started attacking him which gave me the chance to get a bit more compos mentis.

"He started walking off and I could hear smashing as he was walking away so I don't know if he picked something else up or smashed a car up.

"I saw him heading towards Vets4Pets by which time a fireman stood there and I thought 'Oh no another one' but he told me who he was and then told me to come back and see his paramedics or the first aid guys with the fire brigade so I went up there. He even held the dog for me because I couldn't hold the dog any more.

"They were just really really good for me. It was just the sort of pick-up you need, a hand on your shoulder. They're unbelievable, just good good guys.

"If they hadn't turned up and this guy had come back I would've been able to do nothing. I'm just shaking and you're looking behind you because you just don't know if this idiot is part of a few idiots."

Mr McCarter is a builder but has not been able to work for years because he has got carpal tunnel syndrome which affects his grip.

Now because of the attack he cannot face going out.

After the assault the attacker is thought to have headed in the direction of Thornton Road, heading past Vets4Pets and towards Crossley Hall Primary School.

Earlier in the morning the man had crashed his car into a van and house in Sunningdale. Witnesses said he had walked off with apparently no injuries.

A mother and her four-year-old child were left terrified by the incident.

Structural engineers had to be called out to make sure the property that was hit was was safe for the family to return to.
