WHILE the majority of people who turned out to see heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury appear at a Bradford restaurant yesterday were in high spirits, a "small pocket" of people wrecked a police car in an "unprovoked attack".

Yesterday evening, Tyson Fury made an appearance at Mr T's restaurant in Great Horton Road, with hundreds of people turning out to get a glimpse of 'The Gypsy King'.

However, a small group of people at the event chose to throw eggs at a police car which had been called to the area to help manage traffic, before one threw a brick at the car, damaging its windscreen and bonnet.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward with information about the people who chose to tar a great event by being violent towards police.

PC Chris Cahill, from Bradford West Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "Last night officers attended a highway obstruction on Great Horton Road, where a large crowd had been reported to have gathered along the pathway and road.

"It became apparent that an international sporting celebrity was attending a local takeaway in a pre-planned event.

"Whilst a majority of the crowd were attending in high spirits, excited to see the subject, a small pocket of young people took it upon themselves to throw eggs to soil the marked police car, before one suspect threw the pictured brick causing damage to both the bonnet and windscreen.

"Officers were only in attendance to assist traffic flow and promote pedestrian safety. This is an entirely unprovoked attack against emergency services.

“This police vehicle is now off the road, until repaired. That’s one less police car to respond to community emergencies and keep the Bradford West community safe.

"We are entirely frustrated by this mindless vandalism and would hope that anybody with information in relation to the suspect would contact us."

Police thanked local businesses on Great Horton Road who approached officers to help, and condemned the behaviour of the small group.

Anyone who knows the people who attacked the police car, or has any mobile phone footage, is asked to contact police by calling 101, quoting crime reference number 13190098028, or use the live chat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website.

Information can also be reported anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555111.
