This is the incredible moment a man drove the wrong way down a busy motorway in a bid to evade police who were chasing him.

John Taylor, 30, of Riverside Traveller Park in Kirk House Green, Doncaster, was sentenced to 28 months in prison for dangerous driving, breaching a suspended sentence and assaulting police officers after pleading guilty at Sheffield Crown Court earlier this week.

On 10 January at around 10.30am Taylor was driving a 7.5 ton lorry on Fishlake Nab when he refused to stop for officers.

The 30-year-old proceeded to reverse into the officer’s car at speed, several times, before driving off in the direction of the M18.

Officers pursued Taylor, who drove into oncoming traffic on the motorway and performed several U-turns in the westbound carriageway.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Investigating Officer DC William McClean said Taylor showed no thought for the people around him: “He endangered countless lives that day through his reckless and dangerous actions. He put responsible road users at risk not only whilst in the vehicle, but by dumping the lorry and then running through three lanes of traffic on a busy motorway.”

Taylor was found a short time later hiding in a caravan where officers arrested him.

DC William McClean continued: “One of the police officers involved in the pursuit suffered minor injuries that day, thankfully no members of the public or drivers were harmed as a result of his actions.

“We are pleased with the sentence he has received and hope that it acts as a deterrent for anyone else who drives dangerously on our roads.”
