A TEENAGER has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in Bury town centre.

It is believed the victim was stabbed in a barber shop in Bolton Street after being chased there by three others.

Police were called to reports of the incident at about 11.50am.

An 18-year-old man was taken to hospital to be treated for a number of stab wounds. Police say his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Cllr Tamoor Tariq said he had been briefed on the incident, he told the Bury Times: "There were three offenders and one victim. They managed to chase him into a barbers. There was a bit of a scene in the town centre.

"It was an isolated incident. There's an issue between the offenders and the victim.

"On behalf of Bury Council I'd like to wish the victim a full and speedy recovery.

"The situation is being handled by GMP."

An air ambulance was also called to the scene and was spotted landing at Bury Grammar School.

Superintendent Paul Walker, of GMP’s Bury District, said: “I know this incident will cause some concern to the local community given the time and location it happened, but I want to reassure the public that we are actively searching for those responsible.

“Thankfully the victim’s injuries aren’t believed to be life threatening but that shouldn’t detract from the severity of the incident and I would urge anybody with information to please contact police.
