A TRAINING day for scout and Duke of Edinburgh leaders is due to take place in Clapham on Saturday, March 2.

The free event is being run by the Yorkshire Dales National Park authority for the first time as a way of showcasing the Dales as a n ‘outstanding’ area to run expeditions.

Park rangers, farmers and representatives from the DofE award scheme and the Clapham based Cave Rescue Organisation will give advice on planning routes in the Dales, where to stay, what is special about the area, and how to stay safe and what to do if an accident does happen.

The event will take place at Clapham Village Hall from 10.30am to 2.30pm and is open and free to all those involved in running, supervising or assessing expeditions for the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme or the Scouts Expedition Award. To book a place contact Cat Kilner, on Learning@yorkshiredales.org.uk or 01756751623. Lunch will be provided, and there will also be a tour of the CRO headquarters.
