BRADFORD'S water provider is offering schools and youth groups free talks to teach children more about sanitation around the world.

Yorkshire Water is providing the talks and workshops to help children understand how some people in poorer countries do not have access to safe water or sanitation.

They will learn about the crucial role water plays in everyday life, and how lucky people in the UK are to have clean, safe water readily available.

The talks are part of Yorkshire Water's Big Wish for Ethiopia campaign with WaterAid, which is aiming to raise £1 million by 2020 to provide clean water and toilets to 170,000 households in the African country and bring an end to unnecessary deaths in the nation caused by dirty water.

Anne Reed, education and volunteering manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “We have great partnerships with lots of schools and youth organisations across the region and deliver some really interesting and engaging talks for them.

"Our volunteer speakers are knowledgeable and enthusiastic and can really get them message across to pupils that access to clean water and sanitation is a life and death situation.

"We often don’t really know just how lucky we are in the UK to not have to worry about such basic things.”
