A GROUP of weightlifting mums has raised £1,858 for charity, by taking part in a gruelling lifting challenge.

Throughout January, each member of the Rossendale-based Strong Mama’s, completed at least 24 hours of strength training, with the team collectively completing 2019 squats.

The fitness group, which is supported by The Body Project, a personal training and nutrition site, raised the funds to help the empowerment and support group Lancashire Women.

The charity, which has centres across East Lancashire, has 120 volunteers and seen over 6,500 women access it services over the past year.

Development director for Lancashire Women Liz Islam said: “Donations are vital to the work of Lancashire Women, each pound raised means we can support more local women.

“We were amazed by the efforts of the Strong Mama’s team and their gruelling challenge.

“Their support will make a huge difference to the lives of women in Lancashire.”
