A climber was taken to hospital after falling onto rocks near Swanage.

Swanage coastguards were called out on Saturday afternoon to attend the fallen climber west of Anvil Point Lighthouse.

Multiple other emergency crews, including St Albans coastguard rescue, Swanage lifeboat, ambulance and a rescue helicopter from Lee-on-Solent, were also sent to the scene.

On arrival, coastguards met paramedics and a member of the team was winched down to help the casualty.

The injured climber was put in a stretcher, airlifted away from the scene and taken to a helicopter base, where he was transferred to hospital by road.

A Swanage Coastguard spokesman said: "The coastguard teams waited until the remainder of the climbing party had made its way safely to the top. Everyone was checked for welfare, and assistance was provided to the climber's buddy to reunite him with his friend in hospital.
