Last week we reported on plans for Dorset Police to roll out a dedicated officer to work with speedwatch volunteers - which could result in more speeding drivers being fined. Our readers had a lot of opinions on this...here's what they had to say.

  • More money to them in council tax and extra money from the roadside revenue collection. and they say then need more! Red Reble
  • Then stick to the speed limit in my village and you won't have to pay. Rob the Minion
  • The point is that there is a speed limit and if you go faster than that you are breaking the law and must suffer the consequences, like anyone else who breaks the law. If you don't like it, either drive under the limit or don't drive at all. Or perhaps get the law changed; start a boy-racer party. Ronfogg
  • I am reminded of an exercise that was conducted many years ago when a village (call it A) complained about vehicles speeding through it. So they set up speed cameras in the villages either side of village A. Surprise surprise they caught many residents of village A speeding through the adjacent villages. Tarka
  • Why does no one see the obvious action that would remove the need for camera vans and any speedwatch groups in one fell swoop. Don't speed. Anyone who is not able to drive within the speed limit (ergo be in control of a 1-2 ton lump of deadly metal) should not be driving. If the speed limit was 30, 40, 70 or 80, you have an obligation to drive within the laws of the road. If you think it is ok to flout the law on speed, do you then agree it is ok to drive roaringly drunk? I suspect not, so why does anyone think it is their god-given right to speed? It really is beyond me. Keep within the speed limit, remove the need for speed camera vans, community groups and Dorset Speed. You know it makes sense. IfIHadAPound
  • It’s not always that easy; people that constantly keep checking the speedometer cause accidents. I don’t agree with someone doing 45/50 in a 30 but sometimes the police are just duck hunting for money. Simon26r
