A NEW £2.6m housing development has been built in Greenock.

River Clyde Homes, the district’s largest housing association, has completed 20 homes in the south west area of the town at Mallard Crescent.

There is a mix of terraced and semi-detached homes, with six of them having two bedrooms, alongside a total of 14 three-bed homes.

The development — designed by Chameleon Homes and built by Cruden Building — is part of the association’s ambitious plan to build 750 new properties in Inverclyde over the next four years.

Local independent councillor Tommy McVey says the new home improves the area.

He said: "The construction of the new houses in Mallard Crescent is now more or less complete.

"The houses look good and further enhance the look of the area.

"Like any building project there is always a certain amount of disruption and inconvenience to the local residents.

"I would therefore like to thank residents, especially those living in close proximity to the site, for their patience and co-operation over the last year or so."

Cllr McVey says he has met with building bosses to discuss reinstating a grassy area at the site.

He added: "Moving forward, we are now entering the post-construction phase of the project and I recently met with representatives of Cruden Construction to discuss this.

"The main issue is the reinstatement of the grassed area especially the part which became part of the construction site.

"Cruden have advised me that they will be issuing a further newsletter to residents, detailing their plans to reinstate the grassed area, with the appropriate timescales.

"I look forward to these final works being done for the benefit of the whole community."
