CHILDREN are being invited to take on a challenging race in Lymm this spring.

Primary school children in the village are being encouraged to challenge themselves and take part in the Canute Kids Duathlon Series which will be coming to Lymm High School on Sunday, May 12.

The event caters for children under 12, with three run-bike-run (duathlon) events and a fun run.

The races in Lymm will kick off the first 2019 Canute Kids Duathlon Series, which will also see an event in Wrexham on June 30, before a finale in Knutsford on July 7.

The Canute Kids Duathlon has proven to be a great success in Knutsford, with more than 250 children taking on the challenge since 2017.

‘If we can inspire one child and one parent to lead a healthier, active life, then we’ll be happy’

“After two successful years in Knutsford, this will be the first time we have expanded the race to other areas and launched a series, “ Organiser Vicky McKinnon said.

“We’ve witnessed the positive impact that it has on children and parents in Knutsford and we want others to benefit from it too,” she said.

Distances vary depending on age, but all of the races are held in the grounds of Lymm High School, on Oughtrington Lane.

“It’s about having fun, testing yourself and giving it your best in safe environment, fellow organiser Helen Murray said.

“If we can inspire one child and one parent to lead a healthier, active life, then we’ll be happy,” she said.

Children taking part in the duathlon will need a bike in good working order and a helmet.

The duathlon races will be open to children over five and there will be a fun run option too.

All finishers will receive a goody bag and a medal and there will be prizes on offer for the duathlon races.

Duathlon races will cost £12 each (£15 on the day,) or you can enter all three events for £30.

The fun run will be £6 (£7 on the day.)
