STEETON Male Voice Choir members have been to London for a private viewing of a film they appear in.

The singers attended a private viewing of the movie entitled Ilkley at the BAFTA headquarters in Piccadilly.

They were among about a dozen members of the award-winning choir who were involved in eight months of filming.

Ilkley is directed by Harry Michell and stars actor Harry Melling, who played Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter movies.

The film, which is set around Yorkshire, features scenes of the choir singing both on screen and as part of the soundtrack.

The film was announced last year with Roger Allam, Derek Jacobi and Anna Maxwell-Martin amongst the cast of the black comedy.

The publicity blurb stated: “The film is set in an idyllic Yorkshire spa town during its annual literature festival. As the world’s most controversial secularist is set to make an appearance, two hapless evangelicals are tasked with killing him.”

The choir has been busy with musical director Cathy Sweet preparing for the first concert of the year, at St Peter’s Church, Shipley, on March 30. Publicity officer Eric Parker said the choir was eager to find new members for rehearsals on Mondays at 7.30pm in Steeton Methodist Church Hall.

He said: “It is encouraging in the choir’s 110th year it can still muster between 65 and 70 men and still attract new members. Two have joined in February this year.

“At Steeton MVC we have 14 concerts in our dairy at present for 2019, and dates are already being booked for 2020 and beyond, so there is plenty of time to share our talents.”

During the Spring Concert in Shipley, Steeton Male Voice Choir will have as their guests the Sultans of Swing Band, playing classic songs including Chattanooga Choo Choo.
