A PRIMARY school in Bingley has been rated Good by Ofsted after being told it required improvement for five years.

Trinity All Saints CofE VA Primary School, in Church Street, Bingley, received the rating following an inspection last month.

Following the visit, inspectors praised the school for the improved achievements of its pupils, thanks to improved teaching.

The report said: “Improved teaching is raising standards of attainment. In 2018, at the end of key stage 2, an above average proportion of pupils reached both the expected and higher standards.

“The most able pupils are appropriately challenged, and disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) receive effective support that helps them to make good progress.

“The headteacher, supported by able senior and middle leaders, has provided clear direction in bringing about school improvement. Governors are proactive, supportive and challenging. They work very effectively with school leaders.

“Teamwork is a real strength. All adults, including pastoral, administrative and learning support staff, are skilled and sensitive in supporting pupils.

“Pupils have a keen sense of fairness and show respect towards each other and adults. The calm school atmosphere provides a solid foundation for productive and effective learning.

“Community links are strong, and parents and carers have a very positive view of the school. Attendance has improved over time and is above average.”

The school’s Christian ethos was also praised for having a positive impact on pupils.

To become Outstanding, the school was told to improve the quality of teaching even further, particularly in maths, literacy and in early years education.

It was also told to improve the skills of teachers across a range of subjects to ensure learning in all subjects is of a high standard.

Jane Glendinning, headteacher, said: “We are very proud of our school and the outcomes for our pupils.

“It is comforting that Ofsted agree that at our school ‘pupils are well prepared for life in modern Britain’ and that pupil’s behaviour is good, and pupils speak warmly about their school.

“It is the icing on the cake for Ofsted to concur that parents have an overwhelmingly positive view of the school. We will celebrate our success and continue to strive for excellence in order to honour our privilege of educating the next generation.”

Rev Martyn Weaver, chair of governors, added: “This judgement reflects the hard work and professionalism of the headteacher, all staff, pupils and governors.

“Staff and pupils should be proud of their hard work and be encouraged as the school continues to grow and thrive.”

Trinity All Saints was last rated Good in 2010, before receiving two requires improvement ratings in 2014 and 2016.
