SIR - The T&A headline read 'City's reputation cannot continue' (February 9, regarding the Steerside Enforcement Team cracking down on danger drivers).

Let's face facts. There is more chance of freezing a snowball in hell than achieving that aim without one thing – judicial back-up to the effort of the police.

Crackdown week by Steerside Enforcement Team

LETTER: Albert Finney asked me where he could find a decent pub in Bradford

We consistently see the perpetrators of appalling road traffic offences, drug, violence and many other offences “ laughing” at court proceedings. They regularly have their defence team plead pathetic excuses, get sentences reduced for pleading guilty when any other conclusion from the onset lacks any common sense, and in the end incur what is nothing other than a slap on the wrist.

So until long jail sentences are issued without any remission for first offenders, this area of West Yorkshire will continue to be the playground for the wrong-doer, with the law-abiding citizen the loser.
