A MAN was seriously injured and taken to hospital following an incident in a Bradford street.

Police were called to Grantham Road, in the Shearbridge area of the city, at around 9am today by ambulance staff who were treating two injured males.

One onlooker said armed response and dog units were called to the road, which lies between All Saints Road and Laisteridge Lane.

A shocking picture taken in the aftermath of the incident shows blood smeared across the road, just opposite from the house where much of the police activity seemed to be centred.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “One of the males appeared to have suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for further treatment.”

The spokesman added: “Enquiries are at an early stage and are continuing to establish the circumstances of this incident.”

When the Telegraph & Argus visited the scene, the majority of the police activity was centred on a terraced house on the right-hand side of the road coming from the Laisteridge Lane end.

A section between Grantham Terrace and Grantham Place was cordoned off while investigations got underway at the scene.

It was then removed by Police Community Support Officers, with the road reopening at around 10.50am.

However, a cordon remained across the front of the house while investigations continued inside.

This was then removed and officers could be seen loading what appeared to be evidence bags into a police vehicle.

One resident said he thought Polish or Eastern European people lived in the house.

A young woman who lives on the street said her mother was not allowed to leave to go to work when the cordon was put in place.

She said she thought the property was rented and added: “It was a bit of a shock,” she said.

“It was scary.”

Another resident of the street said lots of people come and go from the house.

One man, who lives close by with his parents, said: “There’s so many new faces.

“We don’t really know who lives there.”

He added: “Something was going to happen sooner or later.”

The man said he thought police had been at the house a few days previously and said the area had been nice “once upon a time”.

Speaking to the Telegraph & Argus, ward councillor Nazam Azam (Lab, City) said the incident was “concerning”.

He said: “Police are investigating and obviously we feel confidence in the police to carry out their investigation to establish what has taken place.”
