BAILDON Imagination Library is to receive £2,000 from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.

The library has about 300 children currently registered and the money will enable the group to promote it more knowing it has the funds to support additional children.

Debbie Davies, Chairman of Baildon Imagination Library, said: "We will be contacting the local primary schools, pre-schools, nurseries and community centres and so on encouraging parents to sign their children up.

"It costs around £25 per child per year to post a book every month so £2,000 could find an additional 80 children for one year."

Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 raised from carrier bag sales awarded to local community projects.

Baildon Imagination Library was on the shortlist and came second in the vote.

The library provides age appropriate books every month to around 300 children under 5 living in BD17.

It is part of the Dolly Parton scheme to encourage youngsters to read.
