How did you get into photography?

I have always been interested in photography. I have always looked at things in a different way, from a different perspective to others in my opinion.

I started out over the years using my phone and other basic cameras, then one day a friend asked if I wanted to borrow his DSLR camera as I couldn’t afford one. I couldn’t thank him enough for kick starting my photography.

Who or what inspires you most?

I get a lot of my inspiration from social media, scrolling through different photos and trying to implement them into my work.

I also get a lot of inspiration from nature as a lot of my current work is done in parks and nature reserves.

I would like to shoot more portrait work, and I’d like to try different styles like the photographer Steve McCurry and his work like Afghan Girl and others from his collection.

What’s your favourite kit at the moment?

I love all the kit I have acquired since I started shooting.

I currently use a Canon 200D for most of my shoots, but my flashgun has to be my favourite piece of kit at the moment. You can get some amazing portraits using ‘bounce flash’.

I like to use different types of light in my photography and I like seeing what effect it has on the finished photograph.

What advice would you give to any new photographers?

I would say try different shooting styles – for example landscape, portraits and macro.

Don’t just stick to one type of photography. I started out doing just landscapes and nature shoots – and now I have all sorts of different types of photos in my portfolio.

I have a few people booked in so I can improve my portrait shots. I’m also going to photograph some upcoming events, which is new to me but will give me the confidence to try other things.
