PEOPLE can have their say on Bradford Council's new city centre food market proposals at a number of consultation events this month.

The Council is gathering opinions on the plans, their shopping and leisure preferences, and ideas on how to encourage more city centre shopping visits.

The Darley Street proposals include building a modern market with an underground servicing area on Darley Street and a new public square to host outdoor stalls and specialist open air events. Consultation events take place on Thursday and Friday in the Markets Event Space in the Oastler Centre from 10am to 4pm. There is an event on Feb 11 from 10am to 4pm, in the 1st floor of the Kirkgate Centre, on February 12 from 10am to 4pm at The Broadway Centre, at February 13 from 10-12pm at Bingley Library and 1pm-4pm at Keighley Market. The final consultation will be on February 14 from 10am to 4pm at Shipley Library.

First look at plans for new market on Darley Street

People who can’t attend but would like to express their views can go online at www.bradfordmarkets.com/redevelopment/food-market-darley-street/have-your-say/ or email: bradford.markets@bradford.gov.uk or send correspondence to: Consultation, Units 1-5 Kirkgate Market, Kirkgate Centre, Bradford, BD1 2TE.

The Council will also host an informal consultation evening with professional stakeholders to build a greater understanding of the market plans, local trends and potential trader requirements.

Steve Hartley, Strategic Director of Place, Bradford Council, said: “This exciting transformational new development could offer significant benefits so we are very keen to hear people’s views on it.

“The markets could help redefine Darley Street and the city centre, and showcase the fantastic Victorian buildings on Piccadilly by making them a lot more visible.

“Shoppers, traders and other stakeholders will be critical to the success of the development so we will be listening very carefully to people’s feedback.”
