THERE are currently no plans for Bradford Council to collect food waste separately - despite a push by the government for food waste collections.

Ministers recently pledged that there should be separate food waste collections by all councils in the UK by 2023.

But Bradford Council has said it does not yet have the facilities to accommodate such collections.

And at a recent meeting of Bradford Council, Councillor Mike Ellis asked if this was something being actively considered by the Council.

A response from the Executive said: “The Council currently has no plans for a food waste collection due to there being no local anaerobic processing plant. However, following the government’s recently published waste strategy which outlines plans for all Councils to collect food waste we will wait to see what the proposals are, what funding is made available, and we will respond accordingly.”
