SCHOOLS will soon be out for the February half-term holiday so what are your plans?

Thrill-seekers will no doubt be heading to the theme parks; there are the traditional bucket and spade trips to the seaside, museums are ideal for expanding the imagination and there are plenty of hands-on activities for crafty kids who love keeping busy.

To spark some inspiration, and give you a head-start when putting your entertainment programme together, we’ve pulled together some of the family-orientated things going on around our home county of Yorkshire.

Matilda the Musical, telling the story of an extraordinary little girl who changes her own destiny, takes to the stage at the Alhambra Theatre, Bradford, from Tuesday February 19 until Saturday March 23.

Paw Patrol fans can look forward to the heroic pups, Chase and Marshall’s appearances at Oxenhope Exhibition shed at Oxenhope Station on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway on Wednesday February 20 and Thursday February 21.

While visiting, young visitors can also participate in fun-packed activities including face painting and balloon making.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park, West Bretton, Wakefield, is hosting a packed programme of activities during the half-term holidays including Words of Paradise, a creative writing and imagining session with local writer Becky Cherriman and sculptor Saad Qureshi and Family Drawing, inspired by Giuseppe Penone’s mesmerising exhibition A Tree in the Wood, in the Underground Gallery.

Located within a 500-acre landscape, the Sculpture Park also gives families the opportunity, through Sculpture Cam, to interact with the sculptures from every angle and share their own 3D sculpture animations on their mobiles.

‘Come Rain, Come Shine’ involves working and playing together creating sculptures inspired by artists in the park.

The National Trust has plenty of places in Yorkshire to keep young ones busy. East Riddlesden Hall near Keighley is inviting families to ‘Pull on your Wellies and cook up a storm’ in the mud kitchen, while the beautiful landscape surrounding Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. Ripon, is perfect for den building and wandering along a woodland walk.

Time on your hands? Get creative with an afternoon of healthy baking. Learn how to make herby soda bread and oat and fruit cookies in a Victorian kitchen setting at Cannon Hall museum park and gardens in Cawthorne, Barnsley.

Participants are asked to take a large tin so you can enjoy sampling your sweet treats at home and let the organisers know of any allergies by emailing learning@barnsley.gov.uk.

The Session runs from 1 until 3pm on Tuesday February 19 and is suitable for children aged five to 11. All children must be accompanied by an adult but adults don’t need to purchase a ticket.

The 35th Yorvik Viking Festival, themed around the ‘forgotten stories of Viking women,’ runs from Wednesday February 20 to 27 at the York Viking Centre, Coppergate, York.

Organised by York Archaeological Trust, the festival programme is packed with exciting events including parades and pyrotechnics.Young visitors can learn sword skills too and there will be story-telling, demonstrations and competitions.

LEGO fans can look forward to the Lego Explorers event running from February 16 to March 17 at the Sea Life Centre, Scalby Mills, Scarborough. Young explorers can help the team unlock underwater secrets and get creative drawing, building, colouring and demonstrating their discoveries. The event also includes a LEGO interactive trail.
