A MAJOR new exhibition celebrating the history of the Paralympic Games and disability sport opens today.

The new exhibition at Cartwright Hall in Lister Park, Manningham, will officially open today at 1pm, with a number of special guests on hand for the opening.

At the exhibition, which will run until June, people will be able to see and touch Paralympic medals, equipment and torches.

It will also tell the story of how the Paralympic Games began, and the inspirational story of its founder Professor Sir Ludwig Guttmann.

Memorabilia from Bradford-born para-athletes Peter Finbow and Stuart Meikle will also be on show.

Maggie Pedley, museums and galleries manager at the Council, said: “This exhibition aims to raise awareness of Paralympic heritage and disability activities and to inspire people to take up or support disability sport.

“The events planned offer fantastic opportunities for people to have a go at a wide variety of activities. This exhibition shows just how far we have come as a nation in supporting and celebrating disability sport.”
