WHEN lists of the most affordable places to live in the UK are drawn up by property websites and thinktanks, Bradford is nearly always in and around the top ten.

But, Bradford has now been ranked top of one such list, looking for the cheapest flat or house currently up for sale in the UK.

Located in The Grand Mill in Sunbridge Road, this generously titled 'one-bedroom studio flat' is on sale for just £13,000.

The bedsit, which measures just 3.4 metres by two metres, with only 6.9 square metres of floor space, has just enough room for a double bed, wardrobe and a couple of chests of drawers.

It also has an en-suite bathroom, fitted out with a toilet, sink and shower cubicle, but the kitchen is shared with other residents on the fifth-floor of the building.

For the same price as this small piece of real estate, you could get a base model Seat Ibiza, Vauxhall Corsa or Skoda Fabia.

The bedsit was first listed for sale in March last year, and the price has been reduced by £5,000 since then. It is being offered for sale by Leeds based estate agents Watts & Co.

The flat is described as being good for commuters, and "ideal for an investor", but is only available to cash buyers.

A studio flat in Salem Street comes in at fifth on the list. Again, it is less of a flat and more of a bedroom, with space for a double bed, an en-suite, but communal kitchen and living areas shared with four other studios. This bedsit would set you back just £17,000.

Other areas featured in the top five were Bishop Auckland in County Durham, Barrow-in-Furness, and Hartlepool.

The cheapest property in the UK is a one-bedroom flat in Port Glasgow, Scotland, which costs just £4,000.
