STUDENTS from a school in the area have taken home the gold in a recent badminton tournament.
Heckmondwike Grammar School’s boys team triumphed in the West Yorkshire Championships, overcoming challenges from schools across the county, including Bingley’s Beckfoot School in the tournament held at The Grammar School at Leeds.
The Key Stage 4 team from Heckmondwike finished in third place in their tournament, but the KS3 team were more successful.
The stormed the group stage without dropping a game, before securing the gold with a 5-0 whitewash in the final.
Suhas Gudla, Akhil Maddula and brothers Asish and Sumedh Chittamuru won their matches to secure the school a spot at the Yorkshire Championships, which will be held in York on Tuesday, March 19, battling against the region’s best.
