AN elderly police horse named for a town in the Bradford district has been retired, after 16 years of service in West Yorkshire.
Police Horse Ilkley, 21, known as the 'Rolls-Royce' of police horses, has moved to a new home in Shropshire following his retirement.
After spending the majority of his life as an active member of the police's mounted section in the county, he can now live out his golden years peacefully.
Announcing his retirement, West Yorkshire Police Horses tweeted: "PH Ilkley has retired today to his new home in Shropshire.
"He served with us for 16 years with hardly a day sick. He was always a favourite on the yard and describe as ‘The Rolls-Royce’ to ride.
"He is 21-years-old and is retiring happy and healthy. Have a happy retirement big lad."
