A MAN is due to appear at court following a collision in which a mother-of-two was killed and her young son left seriously injured.
Shantelle Kirkup was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing on St Cuthbert’s Way, in Darlington, in May last year when she was hit by a Ford Focus.

The 29-year-old, from Northallerton, was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, by air ambulance by sadly died from her injuries a few hours later.
Her young son also sustained significant injuries in the collision and was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
A 36-year-old Darlington man has now been summonsed to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court in connection with the incident.
He will appear on February 21 to answer a charge of causing death by dangerous driving and one of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
