AN ice warning has been issued by the Met Office, set to start this afternoon and last until tomorrow morning.

The yellow weather warning will be in place from 4pm today until 11am tomorrow, with the climate monitoring service warning people to take care when out and about.

It said ice will form on some surfaces, with further wintry showers in some places, and warns people to take care as it will be more likely people will get injured from slipping or falling.

There will also be ice on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

The Chief Forecaster said: "Ice will form in places later on Tuesday afternoon and overnight into Wednesday, especially where wintry showers leave surfaces wet.

"Further hail, sleet and snow showers are also likely at times. A small amount of settling snow (one centimetre or less) is also possible at lower levels in a few places."

Temperatures will dip below freezing at 9pm to -2°C overnight, and will feel more like -7°C with windchill.
