ALL eyes will be on Saltaire when one of Yorkshire’s quirkiest events returns to the village next month.
Potato Day, organised by the West Yorkshire Organic Group, will be held at Shipley College’s Exhibition Hall on Saturday February 9.
Each year the event attracts hundreds of visitors eager to pick up some rare seed potatoes, and the more popular varieties normally sell out within minutes.
This year there will be 38 varieties of potato available, including heritage varieties, as well as advice on how to grow them.
Varieties will include Sárpo Blue Danube, Pink Fir Apple Yukon Gold and British Queen.
There will also be a seed swap organised by local group Veg on the Edge.
Radio Leeds Graham Parter and Alan Romans will give talks on the day and sign books, and there will also be talks and discussions by Plate2Plate composts and Riverford Organic Farmers.
And there will also be a Wholegrain Cafe for those needing to take a break from the potato excitement.
Doors open at 10am and the event runs until 2pm.
