ARTISTS are being invited to submit entries for this year’s Bradford Open 2019 art competition.

The competition and exhibition is run by Bradford Council and is open to anyone who is 16 and over who lives, works or studies in the District.

Artwork can be submitted in any medium and will be judged for inclusion in the exhibition at Cartwright Hall by an invited panel.

Work previously submitted to the competition has included painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, sculpture, crafts, video and animation.

This year the panel of judges includes “Bradford Mafia” artist John Loker (pictured) and Caroline Douglas, Director of Contemporary Art Society.

The competition is kindly funded by the Friends of Bradford Art Galleries and Museums.

Artists may submit up to three works which can be dropped off at Cartwright Hall from today until Friday.

The Bradford Open 2019 exhibition will run from February2 to May 5, with the winner announced at the official launch on Sunday February 3 from 1 – 3pm. The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Zafar Ali will be attending and there will be live music by The Peace Artistes Street Band.

The winning art work from 2017 was an animation entitled Follow Me by Lou Sumray. Second prize went to Ian Robinson for his oil painting entitled Violet and Benito and the third prize was won by Eva Mileusnic for her ceramic work entitled Counter Flow.

It shows off and celebrates the amazing creative talent we have in our district. Bradford is such a creative place and I’m sure we will have some incredibly stunning entries for this year’s competition.”
