THE funeral details of former Bradford Council leader Brian Womersley have been released.

Mr Womersley was Council leader from 1979 until 1980, and served as a Conservative Councillor for nine years.

He died earlier this month aged 88 in hospital following a fall.

Mr Womersley was credited by colleagues for playing a "significant role" in the early days of Bradford Metropolitan District Council, and described as a "plain speaking, honest character".

A service of thanksgiving will be held at 2pm on Thursday, January 24, at St Luke's Church in East Morton, followed by a private service at Nab Wood Crematorium.

Guests are asked not to bring flowers, but to make a donation to Pathways Breaks, which supports young and working age people with early-onset dementia.

Mr Womersley is survived by his three daughters and four grandchildren, as well as partner Ann Smith.

Any further enquiries should be made to funeral director David C. Nunn on 01274 511108.
