LONG queues and record sales were reported as national healthcare charity Sue Ryder opened a new ‘superstore’ in Bradford.

The new store at Scott Works Retail & Leisure Park on Clayton Road, which opened on January 4, has 4,250 square feet selling high-quality second-hand furniture, electrical goods and clothing at bargain prices.

The new superstore, one of a new phase of larger stores introduced by Sue Ryder, took more than £6,000 on its first trading day alone and has reported strong sales figures in its first week.

Proceeds from Sue Ryder shops support the charity’s palliative, neurological and bereavement care at the likes of Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope.

Sarah Pickersgill, Sue Ryder Bradford shop manager said: ‘‘We’re delighted to have launched another of Sue Ryder’s ‘superstores’ here in Bradford, and to see so many sales already. We cut the ribbon last Friday morning in front of a whole queue of shoppers!

“The space in the new store allows us to sell larger items like furniture and white goods as well as a wider choice of items – all at the incredible prices you would expect at a Sue Ryder shop.

"Not only will you bag a bargain for your home or wardrobe at the new Bradford store, you will also be helping Sue Ryder support people facing a terminal illness, a complex neurological condition or the loss of a loved one.

“Proceeds from the new superstore on just the opening day could pay for a nurse at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice for two months – which is incredible.

“Anyone interested in volunteering is welcome to pop in for a cup of tea and chat with our friendly team. We would love some help on the sales desk and with sorting donations. No experience is necessary as training is provided, and volunteering is a great way to meet people and pick up new skills.

"Donations can be dropped off at the store and items of furniture can be picked up from your home for free when you fill out the form at www.sueryder.org/furniture.’’
