PEOPLE are being warned to take care when out and about overnight and tomorrow morning, as a weather warning has been issued for ice.

The Met Office has issued the yellow warning from 10pm today until 11am on Thursday, covering the entire Bradford district and almost the entire country.

It said icy patches will develop, with wintry showers also affecting some areas, and warned people to take care as the icy surfaces may lead to injuries from slips and falls, and pavements, cycle paths and untreated roads may be icy.

Temperatures are set to drop below freezing tomorrow morning, in contrast to the unseasonally mild weather we have had so far this month.

Thanks to a stiff breeze, with gusts of more than 20 miles per hour, it will feel much colder, around -6° at times. There is also a small chance of sleet in the early hours tomorrow.

The Met Office Chief Forecaster said: "Icy patches are expected to develop during the early hours of Thursday over England.

"There will also be some wintry showers about, mainly over hills and mountains, but also to some lower levels at times, most likely in parts of Scotland and northern, eastern and central England.

"With the exception of high ground, most places will not see any snow settling."

The first widespread snow of the year has also been forecast for this weekend. The Met Office is predicting a 50 to 60 per cent chance of snow between midnight and 9am on Saturday, so you might need an early wake up to make the most of the snow.
