A TRAINEE search dog for Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team can now take part in operational duties after passing a final assessment.

Border collie Wynn joined the team in 2015 as a ten-week old trainee and has been trained by CVSRT chairman David Warden in a process which has taken two and a half years.

The organisation said it was pleased to announced that the pair had recently been successful in the Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England assessment.

The pair had to demonstrate their capabilities over three days in the Lake District, search for missing volunteers.

This means that Wynn can now join search dogs Meg, Jack and Finn, in serving CVSRT.

Search dogs have been part of the team since 1977 and they now has four air-scenting search dogs and handlers with three trainee search dogs in Tinker, Orion and Tess.

The dogs are trained to air scent so, they do not track the missing person, but react to wind borne human scent.
