BRADFORD is the most expensive area outside of London to insure a car according to the latest figures from Confused.com.

The price comparison site says the average premium quote was £1,111, a 1% increase over the past quarter – equivalent to £8.

The insurance price index is based on more than six million quotes a quarter from Confused.com.

The cost of car insurance in the North of England increased by two per cent – equivalent to £12 in three months, with motorists in the region now paying £707, on average.

However, the current price of insurance in the North of England is still down £50, or seven per cent, cheaper than 12 months ago, despite the increases seen this quarter.

In July 2017 motorists in Bradford were paying £1,266 a year to insure their vehicle.

For the Leeds/Sheffield region which covers Bradford the average price of car insurance in the region is £874, up two per cent (£20) over the quarter.

Among the breakdown of their figures are:

  • Male motorists in the region are paying £929, on average
  • Female motorists in the region are paying £803, on average
  • 17-20 year old male motorists in the region have the most expensive premiums, costing £2,613
  • Followed by 17-20 year old female motorists in the region, who pay £2,031 in comparison
  • Cheapest premium is 61-65 female motorists, who pay £407, on average
  • 66-70 year old male motorists in the region saw the biggest monetary increase - £51 (7%)
  • Another interesting fact – female motorists age 66-70 are just £18 off the most expensive price recorded by the index (dating back to 2006).

Amanda Stretton, motoring editor at Confused.com, said: “Car insurance prices are gathering momentum and have increased in the North of England for the second quarter running – and this quarter we have seen prices rise at a much faster pace.

“This is the last thing drivers need as they face the post-Christmas pinch and as the UK enters a period of economic uncertainty due to Brexit.”
