TWO schools in Bradford have been awarded an accreditation which recognises them as providing a “world class” education to their students.

Carlton Bolling College, in Undercliffe, and Dixons Kings Academy in Lidget Green, have both been given the World Class Schools Quality Mark, recognising the outstanding work done at the schools to improve students’ prospects.

The two schools became just the second and third schools to achieve the accreditation in the Bradford district, following Beckfoot School in Bingley in 2016.

To be awarded the mark, schools must have an Outstanding Ofsted rating, be outstanding in a specific context, such as in a region or in a specialist subject, and be independently endorsed for the award by two respected sources.

Schools also must have pupil achievement above the national average, use ground-breaking techniques to develop students, have a diverse education provision, and demonstrate a commitment to improvement through partnerships and collaborations.

Carlton Bolling was rated Outstanding by Ofsted in October 2017, with the school achieving strong results every year.

The award recognises working being done at the school to give students the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the global environment of the 21st Century.

It recognised the school is “exceptionally well led and organised, basing its decisions on evidence most pertinent to the student”.

World Class Schools said: “Carlton Bolling students demonstrate time and time again how well-rounded and prepared they are for the next stage of their lives.

Adrian Kneeshaw, headteacher at Carlton Bolling, said: “This award is testament to the hard work and sheer dedication and determination of each and every student and member of staff at Carlton Bolling.

“We are extremely proud to belong to such a select network of schools who hold this award.

“We will continue to strive to raise standards even higher at Carlton Bolling and we are excited to see what the future brings.”

Dixons Kings was also named as a World Class School, and was presented with the prize last month.

The inner city school was rated Outstanding in 2017 by Ofsted, and last August was also named a Centre of Excellence for Modern Foreign Languages by the Government, for its work teaching Spanish, French and German to students in one of the city’s most deprived areas.

Neil Miley, Dixons Kings Academy principal, said: “We are delighted to have achieved such a fantastic award that directly recognises the talent and diligence of our students.

“The whole process is designed to assess the skills of the students with minimal input from teachers, this makes being successful even more special.”

The World Class Schools Quality Mark is available to non-selective state schools which offer the best education to young people in the UK.

It assesses students rather than the school itself against a framework of skills young people need to succeed in the global economy.

It gives young people real-life work experiences, peer support, and cultural opportunities outside their local community, so they can have the confidence to overcome socio-economic barriers and achieve their potential.
