THE Post Office in a Bradford village is closed today after it was hit by a break-in overnight.

The Post Office, in Bradford Road, Idle, was targeted overnight, and will be closed until further notice because of the break-in.

Bradford Road was closed by police between Thorp Garth and Idle village this morning to allow the police investigation to be carried out.

A Post Office Spokesperson said: “We can confirm there was an attack on the external ATM at Idle Post Office in the early hours of this morning and we are liaising with staff at the branch to ensure they have the support they need.

"We will of course be helping the Police in their efforts to apprehend those responsible, and we would urge anyone with information to contact the police or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

“In the meantime, the branch will be temporarily closed - we apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused and thank them for their understanding while we work to get the branch reopen as soon as possible.”

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police are investigating a report of a burglary which is believed to have happened at around 1am today.

"Enquiries are at an early stage but it is believed that a large amount of cash has been taken following an attack on a cash machine.

"A road closure between Thorp Garth and Idle village remains in place while enquiries continue at the scene.

"Anyone who can assist the investigation is asked to contact Bradford District CID on 101, quoting crime reference 13190018021, or use the live chat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website.

"Information can also be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."
