AN elderly man has been left with "severe burns" after a fire at sheltered housing in Thackley last night.
Fire crews from Shipley were called to Moorview Court in Northlea Avenue, Thackley, at 8.55pm to reports of a flat fire.
When firefighters arrived, they found a first-floor flat on fire, and two fire engines were used to extinguish the blaze.
A spokesperson for Shipley fire station said: "When we arrived we saw it was a serious fire, and there was a gentleman sat outside who was severely burned.
"He had suffered 40 per cent burns, but no-one else was injured.
"There is smoke damage to the whole flat but the fire was contained to the living room. The man had working smoke alarms which alerted him, so this shows how important it is to have smoke alarms and to test them regularly.
"Fire investigation officers are still at the scene trying to determine what cause the fire."
Moorview Court is age-exclusive housing for the elderly, and is managed by Accent Housing.
