VANDALS are believed to have returned to Heaton Graveyard to inflict more damage to memorials on the site.
The initial desecration was discovered on Monday with numerous gravestones toppled overnight.
Heaton Graveyard Community Project leader Margaret Gray said she was heartbroken by the destruction after the group had put so much hard work into restoring the site.
Her husband Malcolm Gray said today: "On closer inspection 41 graves have been damaged.
"They have been again. At least five graves have been targeted that were not damaged before."
He said the couple had been told by two people who lived near the graveyard that they had heard laughing from the site at about 11pm on Sunday and the neighbours thought there was more than voice.
