HOUSING provider Incommunities has been granted permission to build houses on a vacant plot of land in Thornbury.
Bradford Council has approved the group’s plans to build eleven three and four bed houses on the site of the former Wainfleet House on Rushton Road. The building that used to be on the site was a collection of bedsits for the elderly, and later offices, before it was closed.
Neighbours had complained that the empty building attracted anti social behaviour, and Incommunities demolished it in 2015.
The site was landscaped, but the provider says it has since become a hot spot for litter and fly tipping.
A schools officer at the Council had pointed out that most local schools were full, or near to capacity, but acknowledged that 11 homes was “unlikely to cause concerns” for local primary school places. They did point out that it would be more difficult to place secondary school pupils who move to the houses.
