A NEW gym has opened in Low Moor, marking an investment of around £100,000 into the area.

Pride Gym, on Abb Scott Lane, is the brainchild of Terry Holt and has been an idea in the making for the best part of the last year.

Terry, 32, from Wibsey, was previously an engineer and spent 11 years in the Royal Air Force (RAF).

It was during his time in time in the RAF that he began to get into fitness.

When he left, he then got into natural bodybuilding and began to look into the idea of opening his own gym.

The new, independent, venture means that an empty former industrial unit has now been brought back into use, marking a big investment into the area and creating three jobs in the process.

Money was put into refurbishing the building for its new use as a gym and purchasing equipment.

Mr Holt said the focus is on creating a gym with an inclusive, community feel with a "member-focused approach".

As part of this, the gym includes a ladies-only room and a private spin and class studio.

Group classes and ladies-only classes are due to be added in the new year and personal training sessions are also available.

And with bespoke, brand new kit from brands including Watson, Primal Strength and ATX, for a range of exercise including weightlifting, powerlifting and cardio, it's hoped there will be something for everyone.

The gym also includes a retail area stocking workout food and products.

He said the feedback he's received so far has been positive and added: "It was a lot of hard work to get it open and there's still a lot of hard work to do - it's taking it one step at a time.

"The feedback, in general, has been great."

When the plans were first announced, "proud Bradfordian" Mr Holt highlighted how the gym would provide an accessible and friendly facility to improve health, while improving local services.

Looking ahead, Mr Holt said he wanted to keep the member-focused ethos in the gym, while continuing to invest in the business.

It's currently open between 6am and 10pm from Monday to Friday, 7am to 7pm on Saturdays and 8am until 7pm on Sunday.

A January membership deal is currently on offer and going into the New Year, a 'body transformation' group will run for six weeks at the gym.

Councillor Angela Tait (Lab, Royds) welcomed the investment in the area.

She said: "It's good to promote health in the area. It's just something different to attract people to take part in exercise. They are offering different things.  It looks quite unique."
