A CAMPAIGN which promotes independent businesses in Keighley town centre has enjoyed record success.

An unprecedented 80-plus business premises took part in the latest initiative.

And entry numbers were the highest since the bi-annual venture began in 2016.

Under the Keighley Independents Campaign, shoppers collect stamps from participating businesses and are then entered into a free draw – with a top prize of £1,000 in vouchers, and five voucher awards of £100 each.

First-prize winner was Thelma Hall, with the other awards going to David Heslop, Nick Garthwaite, Jennie Ellison, Sophie Makower and Elaine Vause.

Organiser, Keighley Business Improvement District (BID), said it was delighted with the success of the latest scheme – which ran for nearly four weeks in the run-up to Christmas.

BID manager, Paul Howard, said: "We introduced the campaign because we felt it important to use some of our resources to encourage residents to spend more time in their town centre, particularly during the festive season.

"We are once again delighted with how the businesses embraced it and the high number of entries received."

Project manager Phil Walker said the venture highlighted the wide range of independent businesses in the town centre.

"The campaign not only helps people to shop locally but also supports the businesses as the vouchers are spent with those participating," he added.

"Thelma was delighted with her win and collected her vouchers ready to start a shopping spree in Keighley town centre, with plans for a new outfit first on the list!"

Keighley BID stages a series of activities and monthly events, including theatre and family fun days plus the popular Keighley by the Sea.
