APPLETREEWICK’s favourite acoustic duo Plumhall are teaming up with contemporary folk band Ranagri for two winter concerts.

Plumhall will play their regular Appletreewick venue the Cruck Barn with Ranagri on February 15 then both acts will perform at Bradford’s Delius Arts and Cultural Centre on March 15.

Plumhall regularly organises gigs with well-known names at the Cruck Barn, part of the Craven Arms, playing the support slot themselves.

The act is made up of Michelle Plum who has played with the Chris Norman Band and Chumbawamba, and Magna Carta member Nick Hall.

The pair – who regularly play Haworth and Keighley venues – have guested with Al Stewart at the London Palladium, and appear in forthcoming film 'The Runaways' for which they wrote original music and arranged traditional music.

Nick said: “The two concerts will see true great acts coming together in the spirit of friendship and mutual respect. It will be a very welcome return to the Cruck Barn for the amazing Ranagri.

“Combining superb classical flute and harp playing, with fantastic singing, guitar-playing and percussion on beautiful, rousing and uplifting original songs and tunes, it's no wonder that Ranagri are Tony Christie's band of choice.”

The contemporary folk band comprises musicians Dónal Rogers, Ellie Turner, Eliza Marshall and Joe Danks, who create new music with flutes, Irish whistles, electric harp, bodhran, guitars, bouzouki and voices.

Nick added: “The band fuse Celtic folk music with quality contemporary songwriting, enhanced by virtuosic instrumentals, vibrant rhythms and haunting melodies, all interlaced with vivid storytelling.

”They bring catchy hooks and sublime instrumental blends to traditional tunes as well as their original songs, characterised by Donal's ability to spin a great yarn, delivering the stories with crystal-clear vocal.

“Robust bass lines flow from Ellie's fingers at the electric harp, the perfect partner to Eliza's finessed flutes and whistles. Joe's' bodhran has a boisterous energy that takes the drum kit role and pays it forward with irresistable cross-rhythms and the addition of stomp box and African udu.”

Ranagri will be showcasing new songs from their new freshly-wrapped fourth studio album, due out early this year, and songs from their critically-acclaimed releases 'Voices', 'Tradition' and 'Fort of the Hare'.

Plumhall will be the support act when Icicle Works singer Ian McNabb plays his annual ‘Christmas gig’ at the Cruck Barn on January 11, rescheduled from last month.
